Could what the West terms "Jihadist" be more accurately termed "Hirabi"?

Question

Would this more accurately portray the difference between true Jihad and Hirabah? Woud language even make a difference in the present culture clash (real or perceived)? I know nothing of Arabic, but was fascinated by a story by NPR (link below) and am wondering what the opinions of others, especially Muslims, might be on this.

i think my calling them jihads, the government is trying to get Muslims to stand up to the terrorists.

If the Muslims believe they are misrepresenting the true jihad name they would fight them to defend Sharai honor
