Bald spot on my dog?? What is it?

my 5 month old hound/lab mix has this bald spot on her thigh that started out small, and is now getting bigger. There are some signs of redness, or a slight pinkish coloration on her skin and when it first started out, i felt a tiny little bump near that area... anybody have any ideas what it is?? i am pretty sure she's biting it, there is the only explanation, but why???

I would have to say it sounds like sarcoptic mange. i would get this treated right away.
if its round it could be ringworm, which really isnt a worm at all but a dermatophyte, or fungus. either way your dog is going to need treatment so she stops itching.

Sounds like she might have something in there and maybe causing infection. Animals will lick and bite at a sore in order to clean it and stop the itching. I would think a vet might be in order in case there is something in the sore(sliver,stinger, glass) and also the vet can give you some salve for the sore so she will feel better. If you cant afford a vet clean the area well with soap and water, apply some triple antibiotic ointment lightly on the sore. Do not cover. Keep clean and dry. If it gets more red or seems to be more painful then a vet for sure.

it could be a hot spot from fleas, skin allergies or a fungal infection. Best to check with the vet to rule out mange or other serious skin disease. Good flea control and some special antifungal shampoo from the vet (and a course of oral antibiotics for the skin infection) helped clear up a case of red bald spots on our 10 year old lab last year. My best guess would be that its whats called a hot spot. These are localized skin infections caused by bacteria that overwhelm an area. The hair around the area usually falls out, the skin will be pink or red, and your dog will bite and scratch as much as she can-these can be very itchy spots! I would recommend cleaning the area with a mild soap and water, and treatment with Sulfodene, a topical medication that can be found at most pet stores. might have been something, yet i think of if this is a scab, then it ought to basically be a floor "harm", the two from a chew, popular cuts n' scratches etc... Digger generally has "scabs" coming away with chunks of hair, via thorny trees, barbed cord fences, different canines etc, and what I consistently have in my woofits first help container is a tin of CAMROSA ointment. inspect the united kingdom internet site, as I fantastically reccommend the stuff. i've got used it on Diggers scabs and bare epidermis injuries, and it HAS inspired healthful therapeutic with finished hair-enhance. it relatively is utilized by skill of all styles of animal proprietors ie. horse, goat, canines, cat, pig etc.

probably a flea bite that she keeps scrathing. Get some cortisone spray to help stop the ithing and help the hair grow.

one of my dogs done that one time and i took him to the vet and it was mange so you might want to take him to the vet cause mange is contagious... i hope this helps and take your dog to the vet and make sure its not mange

u kno when u get poison ivy? well she prolly has like itchy or something there thats making her scratch there, or something like an infection thats ,making her scratch it. bring her to the vet fro some creme for it..
