He may actually be a little uncomfortable around you socially, and rather than ignore the "elephant" in the room he decided to be friendly and respect that there is a history that was important at one time and not be to ignore that.
Or he's madly in love with you.

he probably still loves you... if u feel the same way then go for it! but if otherwise you can either ignore it or confront him bout it... it might be a lil akward but it saves u from his future behavior around u
