I'm Latin American, legal resident of the United States, and speak perfect English. I also participate in the holidays (except today since I don't have kids). I have a job as a webmaster and I'm active in my community. Why do you guys, then, talk crap about Latin Americans in general in this forum? I mean, I know your point of view is against illegal immigration but every time I try to say something that contradicts your beliefs you tell me to "go back to your sh!tty country beaner"

I would say you are dealing with some clear prejudiced individuals that find it patriotic to do so. If it "speaks Spanish, it must be Mexican" - that's the mentality. Don't try to reason with these individuals. It's ignorance and intolerance.

The debate was never approached from a realistic viewpoint by either political party or society. Personally, I rather see the border like it was pre-1929 people come and go as they please. The people opposed to immigration reform are the ones exploiting this under the table labor. People are human regardless of there legal status and politicians are using migrants as scapegoats for economic problems brought about outscoring of jobs to China, or Asia. Immigration system makes it pointless to play by the rules when the rules are subjective to begin with. This under the table labor market been going on before 9-11, and before Regan or Clinton stepped into office. Were all migrants by nature looking for jobs and opportunities its human nature to go where you can provide for your family. I see this situation similar to the question of slavery in the south in the 1850s. The situation will be worse before it gets better. The cultural differences have been factor at play, and blurring of differences is occurring and the natitvists dont like it. Freedom to travel and live where you want is fudemental human right.

You have every right to disagree with anyone you choose to without having racial slurs thrown at you. I apologize for all the idiots that treat you in this manner. I think the main problem is that many people are angry about all the illegal aliens coming into the country (and not just from Latin America). It's kind of like someone cutting in front of someone else to get to the head of the line, and most Americans resent that.

some people just take out their frustration on this issue on all Latin looking people. Those who are educated and intelligent know better that to do this.

The illegal immigration going on is going to ruin the United States if not stopped, not to mention destroy the "American Way." While you seem to have wanted to become an American, the illegals have no interest in doing so, and this is clearly shown by not speaking Engligh, flying their native country that was so wonderful they had to leave's flag, and, well they are criminals, not respecting our laws.

It sucks that you, someone who did things the right way and is doing things the right way, gets dragged into it, but we need more like you to step up and quit defending people just because you were from the same part of the Globe. The complete lack of enforcement and respect for our countries laws is disgusting to many of us, and hopefully it will be most of us before it is too late.

I also never thought I would get even remotely prejudiced, but I speak spanish semi fluently and refuse to do so anymore if someone who speaks spanish is around. It is a matter of principle...I would love to go to Italy but until I learn Italian I know better.

I can't speak for anyone here who has treated you that way. I'm sorry, b/c I'm sure it hurts your feelings and no one should have to be hurt that way.

Humans tend to place people in categories. Unfortunately, it's hard to look at a person for their individuality after being so accustomed to 'generalization' about a category. There's a 'general opinion' formed about a certain culture; and it sticks.

It sounds like you lead a nice; productive life. You are an honest citizen and deserve respect. Unfortunately again, there's a large population of Spanish-speaking ILLEGAL aliens in American; so people think about that and forget that not ALL Spanish-speaking people are here illegally. Believe me, I don't agree that anyone should be generalized this way; but it's just human nature I think.

Those who say things like that to you have no clue how to inform an intelligent thought; therefore they resort to child-like name-calling. It's just rude and ignorant.

I have no problem with anyone coming here LEGALLY because they want a job. This country need immigrants. I do however have a big problem with people who think they are above certain laws. The advocates for ILLEGAL immigration have played the race card (although I would argue that "Hispanic" is not a race). Once they played the race card, the whole issue degenerated into an issue of us against them (one race against another, rather than people in favor of U.S. law vs those against it). Unfortunately, you are an innocent victim of this battle. My suggestion would be for legal immigrants (of all origins) to organize and speak out against law breakers so it doesn't appear that members of certain ethic groups think they are above certain laws. (The problem is that LEGAL immigrants are too busy going about earning a living and taking care of what is important to have time to spend on things like this).

I think it may be the fact that some Americans are so frustrated that they cannot see both sides, not so much to agree with the other side but at least to understand what motivates them just as pro-illegals have to understand the anger that anti's feel and why. Just continue what you are doing, in the way that you are doing it and you will be respected as well.

I don't have anything against you or latins in general.
However, i do have something against all illegal aliens.
It's not right that people give you racist remarks.
But you do support illegal aliens coming here; That upsets people because of the way you advocate it so much.
I respect every opinion, but if it's obnoxious or racist i don't.
I understand that you may feel more emotional as your of latin descent; But they do affect all legal citizens.
Some people who do support it are just arrogant and ethnocentric; I am not saying you are.

As a supporter of illegal immigration once said to me.
I am American, but my blood is mexican; i cannot change that.

good question. this is America and has been an english speaking country since its inception. In the past people came to America to join in the communities . They did not try to take over the language. Push 1 for english. they did not allow their children to run the streets and shoot at each other. they taught them morals and a work ethic. Some how all this has been lost on the new generations who enter our country and subvert what hundred thousands before us gave their lives for. America, a great way of life. once upon a dream.
