102 is NOT a high fever.
My older daughter runs a fever at the drop of a hat, and her fevers spike suddenly, sometimes causing seizures. So I have a lot of experience with this.
Unless a fever is very low-grade in the first place, Tylenol or Motrin will not bring it down to normal or break it. And they don't need to. In fact, many pediatricians tell parents not to treat fevers under 102 at all. A fever is the body's way of fighting off an infection, and you only need to treat it if it's causing a problem, like seizures, or making your child very uncomfortable. (And my daughter can walk around with a temp of 105 and a smile on her face. You'd never know.)
If your child is eating and drinking fine, and he has a few wet diapers every day, there's no need to worry. Really.
You're doing all the right things.
And if you think your son IS uncomfortable, you can try Motrin instead of Tylenol. It works better and lasts longer. And if you're REALLY worried, you can alternate Motrin and Tylenol (i.e. one at 12, the other at 2, the first again at 6, etc. until you don't think you need it anymore).
You don't have a problem. You don't need the ER. And since you're seeing the pediatrian tomorrow anyway, you don't need to worry.
Viral infections, like colds, can cause fevers in little kids. And most fevers in children are caused by viruses. The good news is that it's no big deal. The bad news is that your pediatrician will tell you there's nothing to do but what you've been doing.
I'm editing this to respond to some previous posters: DON'T GIVE YOUR BABY A COLD BATH OR RUB HIM WITH ALCOHOL OR TURN OFF THE HEAT. Think about how you feel with a fever: you're hot, then cold, and you have chills. You don't want to cause shivering--it only increases the temperature and makes your poor baby's body work harder. A warm bath, not hot, not cold, where you wet his head and shoulders, is the way to go. Alcohol can be dangerous; the vapors are not good for children. And turning down the heat is just silly. If he's hot and sweaty, dress him lightly. But have a blanket handy, so you can warm him up if he gets chilled.
Also, when alternating Tylenol and Motrin, two hours is too often. You need to leave at least 3 in between doses, although if your child spikes to 105 or 106, then you can give both at once.
Most pediatricians or ERs don't need to see a baby your son's age unless the fever hits 105 or he develops other symptoms.

high temps always seem to rise at night. sounds like you are doing everything you can do. The bath, try some cold liquids, the tylenol alternate that with motrin and it works better, If he is eating and drinking that is good. for now just give the medicine time to work. If he gets worse such as temp up to 103, vomiting especially projectile vomiting, diarrhea, then take to the hospital. I'm sure the temp will prob break with a little time.

The fever is a sign, but is not 'very high.' Tylenol is only a pain remedy, not a fever remedy or anti-inflammatory. Ibuprofen is a fever remedy, though.
Keep an eye on him, don't give him Ibuprofen if you have given him Tylenol, continue the baths if you like and it makes him feel better, and get him to the doctor tomorrow.

You can alternate between Tylenol and Motrin every four hours. That should help break the fever. Also try keeping him dressed cool, just a t shirt and a diaper would be good. The pop-ice popsicles work well also. Hope this helps!

don't give him luke warm baths give him cool baths also keep his clothing minimal no socks no pants maybe just a t-shirt or onesie. also childrens motrin works the best i think you are aloud even doctor will verify to use tylenol once then 4 hours later give motrin. motrin is used every 6 to 8 hous though but i find it works best on my three kids. the doctor will probably tell you to though that what he/she has is just viral and theres nothing they can do and just watch him/her. don't be so alarmed i know its horrible when our children feel like this. REMEMBER, fevers always rise at bedtime cause thats when our children are more relaxed if eating and drinking don't be so alarmed when they stop that, that's when you get concerned and start giving jello, popsicles, pedialyte, water, apple juice. no red juices or milk

give the baby alcohol rub and don't have the heat on make sure the baby is cool and is given enough fluids. also make sure your baby fever doesn't continue to rise and if do so rush the baby to the emergency room. and another thing u can mix tylenol and a little motrin together and it will break the fever quicker

DO NOT alternate between Tylenol and ibuprofen every two hours unless your pediatrician says it's okay. If you're worried, call the doctor. Pediatrician's offices have a nurse on call. As an experienced parent, though, it sounds like you're doing the right stuff, and unless it went over 103 I'd probably continue as you are and bring him in tomorrow.

children's motrin works great to reduce fever right away. He must have an infection or teething, to cause high fever. Does he drink the bottle, ear could hurt, but they say childrens fevers always go that high, put cold wash clothes on to soothe, keep him covered, lots of love & kisses... i know it breaks your heart when the little ones are sick.
