I often think things like that. Who the hell discovered that really, really off milk eventually turns into cheese? Or grapes into wine? Human beings are fantastic creatures, especially in those kinds of aspects.

Actually I think it was a sheep that was milked first. Able had sheep and at the time they didn't eat meat. He used the sheep for milk and wool. It could be that the lamb died and there was the milk going to waste and they were hungry. After that they said Hay that taste pretty good. Then seeing that a goat was pretty good to. Then a cow.
Personally? I don't want anything squeezed out of the butt end of a animal.

I think it would have been quite clear to them. Female humans nurse their young by the breast, it would have been clear that a calf was getting a similar feeding from it's mother as well.
Why they thought cows' milk was superior to other animals' milk is another question.

I've always wondered this myself.
What other creature on earth would go up to a mother animal of a different species and say, "I wonder if they would let me suck on their teet?"
Although I do drink milk and understand the heath benefits of it, you have to worry about this one!!

Surely, they watched the calves take the milk. Saw how they survived and how easily it was obtained and decided to try it for themselves.
