Don't try to take a divot or you mess you swing up. Do not push down with your right arm or you will get a deep bone jaring divot. Watch the bottom part of the ball during your swing until the ball is hit. YOU hit the ball first than the club takes the divot. Make sure you keep the ball up in your stance. Let me start over. Go to www.pga.com and check out pre swing routine and start from the beginning . My 360 blog roll can help you with several links

Set up normal to hit a 7 iron....put a tee in the ground about 5 to 6 inches in front of the ball and try to hit the tee after you hit the ball. This will get you thinking about swinging down & thru the ball.

You can also put another tee in the ground away from you to mark the placement of the ball you hit. This will allow you to see where your divot begins so you make sure the divot starts after the ball. Then you'll know your striking the ball first.

There is no proper size divot that needs to be taken. The shape of your swing will dictate the size. The one certainty is that contact with the ball is first and then down into the turf. Stick a tee in the ground immediately in front of the ball and swing to strike the tee. The ball will be simply getting in the way and you'll be making proper contact.

The easiest way to learn golf like a pro is by following "The Simple Golf Swing" program. It's primarily a 31 page eBook that teaches golfers how to make solid contact with the ball, how to avoid hitting fat, how to avoid slicing, how get more power, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. Consistency being the number 1 golf skill.

You not only get the eBook though, you also receive a ton of extra material including video, lessons on putting, driving, chipping, sand play etc. Here is their official site: http://www.golfswingguru.net
