yes, that's probably why, dogs have very sensative skin, using regular shampoo strips the natural oils from their coat and skin and irritates their skin, making their coat rough and coarse and making them itchy. The fragrances used in human shampoos also irritate their skin. I stongly reccomend switching him to a doggy shampoo, preferably one for dogs with sensative skin. That should help make him a lot more comfortable. Bathing a dog too often can also irritate their skin, they should only be bathed once a week, twice a week is pushing it. Bathing them too often dries out their skin and can compound the issues already caused by using human shampoo on them. So I'm sure if you switch him onto a once a week only bath schedule and buy him some sensative skin doggy shampoo he'll be a happier, healthier individual. It might take a couple of weeks or so to get his skin back to normal, so don't worry if he looks and acts the same for a while, studies show that takes the skin up to a month to recover from an allergic reaction.

It could be the regular shampoo, my dog has very dry skin, which is not apparent normally, but I use a oatmeal dog shampoo that really helps with the dry skin! Try a dog shampoo, there are several brands out there that are not expensive. Your dog may have allergies, minor ones, to the shampoo!

Good luck!

Yes, it probably is the shampoo they are using. Try a shampoo made just for dogs and only bathe her once a week max. Once a month or less is even better. Also, help your grandkids and make sure they are rinsing all of the shampoo out.

Regular shampoo can really dry out a dog's skin. Dog shampoo has skin moisturizers in it that helps with that. It's also around allergy season, and many dogs have allergies that are only signified by their skin. Fleas could also be the culprit. A bath won't kill them.

Yes.

If dog has no history of skin problems, stop bathing for 4-6 weeks.
If still has problems, try modifying diet.

In any case, stop using people hair products. If she is scratching and biting to raw flesh, seek immediate medical help.

First off...they make pet shampoo for a reason. TO USE ON PETS! The regular shampoo may be too strong and causing allergic reaction or irritation to the dog...also they may not be rinsing her well. Have her checked for fleas too

very possibly especially if she is being washed too often once every 3-6 months is more than enough if the dog is casting at the moment it could be an allergy if so change diet slightly by introducing her to dry food failing that you will need to see a vet

Get her to a vet. It could be the shampoo for sure, especially if they don't rinse him good. But it could also be a skin infection. He is hurting and needs help right away!

Could indeed be the shampoo. They put all kinds of chemicals in that stuff.I, myself allergic to many of them. I have even burnt the skin on my face with one. It was nasty, May need a vet to look at her. One thing I can tell you it leaves you very uncomfortable. Scratching she could cause infection as well.
