I want to make butter rice to go with my Irish lamb stew, but I don't know the other ingredients involved other than the obvious butter and rice. Please include the how-to-do-it part as well.

Melt 2 TBS butter in a saucepan. Saute two cloves chopped garlic. Add 1 cup white rice and saute for a few minutes. Add 1 tsp. salt and 2 cups water (can use broth instead if desired). Bring to a boil. Cover, turn down to a simmer, and simmer 15 - 20 minutes. The water should be all absorbed. Toss rice with 1 TBS more butter and serve. Enjoy!

Personally, I would add potatoes to the stew and forego the rice, but if you insist:

Put 2 cups of water, one cup long grain Basmati rice, 4 tablespoons butter, two tablespoons dried parsley flakes, and a little fresh ground pepper (to taste) in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to lowest setting or flame and let sit for about 20 minutes or until liquid is fully absorbed and rice is tender. Fluff with fork before serving.
