If it was truly a gift, than it should be given freely and with no strings attached. You could ask but probably would be rejected. Take the high road and chalk it up to a hard lesson learned, and in the future don't give such lavish and expensive gifts. If it is truly love the price of the gift won't matter.

She dumped you really badly and you feel like crap. It is unfair that she has some expensive gift from you but you don't want to make yourself look petty and ineffectual by trying to get the gift back. It shows an inequality of power her breaking your heart and then all you can do is take back your expensive... to get back at her. It may make you look powerless and petty. You may look back on it and wish you had just gotten out with your dignity. You may just want the gift back. I suggest mentioning to her that you want to talk about giving things back of each others (CDs clothes etc.) but that you don't want to do it right away. It may occur to her that you want the gift back and she may just give it up without it turning ugly. Good luck.

Yes - If it was a "just because" gift. If you gave it as a Christmas or Birthday gift, you're screwed.
It would be considered rude if you asked for it back in that case. But if you just gave it to her out of the goodness of your heart, by all means ask for it back - just be cautioned that asking for it back doesn't necessarily mean you are going to get it back.

Though the good & the bad, a gift..is still a gift, You gave it to her & it is hers. I mean if you wanted to, sure you could ask for it back, but really if she did that to you, she should do the right thing and return it, if she took it knowing she was about to break up with you.. good luck to you

No, like the previous poster said, "A gift is a gift". But it's perfectly fine to ask why she "dumped" you if that's what you'd really like to do.

No. The only thing you can expect to get back is an engagement ring, because that's the only "gift" that ,when accepted, comes with obligations.

Sadly, no. A gift is a gift and should be given with no strings attached. That said, if she had any class she'd offer to give it back.

A gift is just that- a gift.
If she is decent she will give it back without you asking for it.
But, no, you shouldn't ask.
