I think it's honorable that they go. But is it where anyone (sane) wants to be?

Nonalcohlic -- I would consider "wanting" to go where tens of thousands of soldiers have already been killed or maimed a bit insane. So, YES, I am calling anyone who would want to go there "insane".

My son is on his second tour of duty somewhere in Iraq. I do not care for your insinuation, but you have a right to your very misled opinion.

I do not like this or any war and I do not think most of our soldiers do either, but this is their job and what they volunteered to do...for me and for you.

When you are deployed, you are not given the option of saying, hey, I am sane so I am not going, you go. Its not for the President and its not for the people of Iraq...you go because its your job and you go because the people in your unit, your friends, are going and you are not going to let them go without you...I believe that is called loyalty.

No body can answer for someone else. When you say OUR SOLDIERS you're talking about a heck of a lot of people. I'm sure some would love to go the Iraq, while others would not.
I'm way beyond military age, but when I was in the army, I looked foreward to a good battle. I was in the front line infantry ( the guys who stick the bayonet into the other guy's belly ).
Fighting is what soldiers are trained for. To be all trained, equipped with the very best and latest of weapons, but not want to use your training is not the mentality of a good soldier.
And don't forget that in the second world war there were more Americans killed in a couple of hours than in four years in Iraq.

My son is in the Marines and has been deployed for at least 6 months. He signed up about a year and a half ago knowing full - well that he would probably go to Iraq. I don't think my son is insane and in fact, recruits are given psychological exams before they allowed to join. So far, my son has not gone to Iraq. He is on a ship that will sail to a number of countries, but they still do not know if they will be going to Iraq or not. Of course, we hope he will not have to go, but he is ready and willing if called to do so.
Before my son joined the military, I was corresponding by email with a soldier in the army national guard. He would actually call me from Iraq. When he returned home, he signed back up to go and finish the job and is in Iraq now. He didn't seem insane to me either. I think these guys are brave, not crazy.

I've already been called insane.

What is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan is simple. We are providing a target for terrorists to attack.

Have you ever lit a fire outside an anthill? All the Ants come running out to attack the fire, and die. Only the worker ants remain. "Terrorists" enlist suicide fighters from these countries, so we have "set the fire" there. Let them attack me and my buddies, who are trained ready to destroy them. Now they have less ability to recruit, and less money to spend attacking USA on its home soil.

I know, you're thinking... there's more recruits willing to fight and die to kill the USA than ever. True, but they are going to fight the US in Iraq. They are going to die trying instead of suicide attacking innocent civilians in the USA.

The Problem? We are doing nothing to redeem ourselves. We need to be honest about what we are doing.

We need a good President. Either a warrior or a peacemaker. Bush is neither, he's a fool and history will be very cruel to him.

Roch isn't racist... he's a man who knows his duty. You gave us the job, and I hate it but the only way I can sleep at night is to know its WAR, not MURDER. There's a big difference between shooting someone in cold blood, and killing someone who's shooting at you. Don't hate us, get us home to our families and pull your heads out! It's disgusting to me that you'd confuse a Noble Soldier who's willing to give his life for you with your pitiful dog of a President.

Any soldier wants a chance to serve in a combat zone. Both because that is what they have trained for and because serving in combat is an important part of rising in the ranks you are never going to be chairman of the joint chiefs without that CIB.

being scottish when it comes to going its not a choice you join up to protect your country, family and way of life because you believe in it, we take on the responsibility and give up many things that civilians have and you put your trust in the higher authorities on deciding where and when you go, no one wants to go to Iraq or any other war but we do because that is what we are trained for and paid for and every soilder joins with the knowledge that one day we may have to fight whether or not our personal politics agrees or disagrees. no intelligent and human person wants to kill another human being but as a soilder you may one day be called upon to do just that, so no i do not believe that any soilder wants to go to Iraq but we do because it is our job and responsibility to do that job.

They go because they are soldiers and that is what they have been trained to do and do so under oath. I know way to many of these guys that served their time in the service and were on inactive reserve that have been called back to duty and they hate it! I think that is why the armed services have people beating down the doors at recruiting offices to join these days isn't it.

I believe not, The soldier fights for justice, The Men at War are Confused there's no agenda, A military without an agenda eventually burns out its troops and resources. They will start the draft soon.

Personally, I think it's dump to go there and fight someone else's war. It's funny how everytime we go to war, the same reasons are thrown out there to justify the sacrifices of our troops. It's always for freedom, it's always to protect our rights, it's always the same lame excuses. If it's so noble and worth fighting, let me ask you this... Why is it that the elites of this country don't send their sons and daughters to fight this war then? Why is it always those from the poor neighbourhoods that are out there fighting??? Why do you not see senators' kids taking up arms and go to the front lines??? It's very clear... they, the same people, who sell you this war, do not believe in their own rhetorics.
