Pets are often victims of birth defects like humans, also when the mother dog realizes that her young is defected she may hurt the puppy further. Mother dogs will sometimes kill their babies who have birth defects. But I assure you with proper love and care this dog can be as loving as any other dog. Also, these dogs usually can function almost as well as a normal dog. A good vet can give you suggestions for care. I have spent many years reading books and learning about dogs. Another great way to get information about pets is on the web, they have a large amount of educational material on dogs and almost any problem you encounter with them. Good luck, this is a special dog.

AWW! Poor baby. Sometimes things like this just happen. I have a breeder friend who had a chihuahua pup born a few months ago with 3 normal legs and one deformed leg, and she is doing great getting around on the 3 legs.

as long as the pup with 3 legs is strong and eating and drinking, and it isn't in any distress then i wouldn't worry.the puppy obviously didn't fully develop in the womb which shouldn't really be a problem for you if it isn't a problem for him, don't worry about it and dont treat him any differently as he knows know difference and he will be fine.
