The hijab (scarf) is required-the face veil is strictly a custom of some areas . The hijab is required in the Qur'an, the veil is not.

The hijab is no different than Orthodox Jewish women who cover their heads, or the Pentecostal woman never cutting her hair, and wearing it up in a beehive style. And, I could go on and on.

Why won't people let this subject drop?

I will be marrying a Muslim man soon, and most likely reverting to Islam in the next year. We have discussed hijab, and it is entirely my decision if I do this or not. In his family, his mother and one sister do this, but the other sister does not. It is recommended, but not at all mandatory. If I coose to cover, it will be out of respect to my husband.

Dear, for your answer please visit this source. i am sure you will be satisfied with this answer.

The reason why Hijaab is prescribed for women is mentioned in the Qur’an in the following verses of Surah Al-Ahzab:

"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
[Al-Qur’an 33:59]

The Qur’an says that Hijaab has been prescribed for the women so that they are recognized as modest women and this will also prevent them from being molested.

Veils are worn out of personal choice.

Some women wear it because they are forced and some wear it because they want to. But most of us where it because we want to. Some of muslim men want their wives to wear it because their wives have beautiful faces and it prevents men from tring to come on to them when their out by them selves.

it'ss imposed by the religion but they are given the choice to wear or not to. and that choice is determined by how ready one is to embrace the religion more fully

As a curious on-looker, it seems as though social pressure is sometimes put on Muslim women to conform in this way. I think they are told it is their choice, then made to feel "bad" if they don't wear them.
