He told a college crowd in California that if you don't get an education you will wind up stuck in Iraq. I voted for Kerry, but I don't like the message of what he said. Today's military is far more educated and qualified overall than it was when I was in during the Vietnam War. I don't support our reasons for being in Iraq, but I do support our troops. Should Kerry apologize?

Was he quoted out of context? If he wasn't, this was not a smart political move. Few people blame our troops. The focus should be on the Bush administration.

Yup. And he launched a neocon feeding frenzy, or at least an attempt to start one.

Kerry put his foot in his mouth, no argument. So that's one for Kerry, and how many hundred for Bush?

Unlike Bush, Kerry is a combat veteran (who could have rotated home after his second Purple Heart), so I'm sure his comment, which I have only seen out of context, was not intended to insult troops serving in Iraq. As for an apology, if he feels he insulted the troops, he will apologize, if as I took it he meant that if you are an uninformed voter you will end up with cheerleaders like Bush sending you overseas to die he probably will not. If Bush is insulted, good, he deserves to be in prison, not just insulted.

Yes, he made a comment that he should have thought about before he opened his mouth. I do somewhat understand what Mr. Kerry meant. If we had better opportunities in this country for higher education that didn't cost a fortune maybe our young men and women could choose better jobs than the military. For some it is the only way for a chance to better themselves and to get a higher education. Yes, our military is more sophisticated than in Nam. The soldiers are still green and a lot are still just kids the way they were then. I lost loved ones in Nam. Have a child over there now. I don't support the war. Yes, I support the troops. Remember John Kerry is a Veteran and not from the same branch of service as Bush. We can all miss-speak.

Well the libs are out tonite,LEE W;; you got it right.I was wounded in Nam & no one asked me if I wanted to come home. All that happened was they took me off the flight line (I was a gunner on a copter) for three days so they could fit me with a ankle cast then I went back to flying. My brother was in Nam for 4 tours with the Marines, was wounded 4 times, 4 Purple hearts & no one asked him if he wanted to go home.All3 of my brothers served in Nam.. We never threw our medals away because we were proud of them & unlike Kerry we EARNED themWe also didnt come home & condem the troop still there. We went to church each day And prayed for them. The only way Kerry could have known we were baby killers was he saw us do the killing.Under the Military Code Of Justice if a officer sees a crime & does not report it , he is also guilty. I guess Kerry also was a baby killer.

The Kerry element has mostly blown over. besides, the standard consensus looks that he did no longer intend to insult the protection stress, merely President Bush. the two way, he ought to have theory earlier he spoke, and he quite made a popular pretend pas, however the media's interest has grew to become any other way now-- to the Haggard scandal. shop up!

I do believe Kerry should apologize. My husband is in the millitary and he is very intelligent. He is also kind, smart, and generouse. Above all he is brave, honorable and selfless. I support everyones right to feel however they want about the war, but Kerry has no right to speak about people of which he is obviously ignorant.

I don't think he should, after all what he said is mostly true. The military has recently lowered their admission standards accepting more low performing recruits, essentially "dumbing down" the entire military. We all know that there are a lot of smart people in the military, but if you drop out of high school and have no other option but to join the military, you probably will get stuck in Iraq just like everyone else over there who is not allowed to leave, had their deployment extended or are not allowed to resign.

John Kerry is the same as he was in the sixties.
He constantly puts down the military. The Swift Boat Vets are 100% right. Kerry is an elitist liar.

He must have. The head of the V.F.W. has said that Mr. Kerry owes all military people an apologize but Mr. Kerry said that he would never do that.

I don't think that's what he meant. It IS what he said, but I don't think Kerry actually believes soldiers are stupid.

But look at the average education of soldiers overall. Lack of education doesn't mean you're stupid. It means you have fewer options, and the military is one of the better ones. Most people in Iraq were not expecting to go there. They signed on to go to college or as a good paying job. And, yes. They are stuck there.

He won't apologize, he'll flip/flop and have a different comment for a different audience, just like he always has.
Kerry is a disgrace to his office and to the American people... check your facts.. he now says the comment was a "joke" that went wrong.. a jab at Bush. We don't need that crap from someone who got out of Viet Nam on a made up (probably self inflicted) injury, came back and threw his (someone else's ) medals back and then sold out our troops, aiding the enemy... war "hero" my a*ss.
