Maybe the god that everyone worships, the Old Testament dude who who was so demanding of worship, who asked Abraham to sacrifice his son to him, flooded the earth, destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and all that mean crap was actually Satan? Some of that sounds like some pretty nasty stuff, more like what you'd expect from the real Satan, not a loving God. Maybe the real God who created the earth got a bum rap and has been fighting to get his world back from the captivity that Satan has on those who believe that they're following the commandments of the real God. What if the Garden of Eden was really a prison where Satan posing as God intended to keep man imprisoned from the real world outside and it was the real God, disguised as a serpent, who had to entice them to knowledge, as he had originally intended? Is not Satan supposed to have deceived the entire world? This would fit that description.
"True believers" would be totally clueless to tell the difference. They would know nothing of the real God, and any claims of "just knowing it in their heart" would be based on what the false God, Satan, had taught them. If this were Satan's plan, to keep mankind on the wrong path, do you think he would make it so obvious to spot that every twelve year old who goes to Sunday School could tell? Does an unborn, unhatched chick know what's outside its shell? One has to step outside their world, their believer's frame of reference in order to see their religion from an objective point of view, in the same way that you can't see that the Earth is not flat while standing on its surface. From space, however, the Earth's roundness is perfectly obvious.
A bit of a silly and fanciful story? It's no sillier than the original version. Christains are no wiser to see through lies than anyone else. If this story of mine is true, maybe even less. Quoting the Bible on this one is just digging your hole deeper. One respondant stated to the original question "In that case, we're all screwed", to which I'd say "only those who are following Satan disguised as God." Those who don't believe it are immune to it.

Even if God wanted to decive, it wouldn't happen. God is perfect! Just like, 2+2=5, it wouldn't happen.
What an abstract thought though, but the whole bible is mostly about good vs evil; God vs Satan. Satan is also a fallen angel, so yeah. If God was actually evil before Satan even left his side, the world would be chaos. Instead, the work was perfect before satan left his side.

Well not much because
#1 Satan is a creation of God and his servant. If he was able to defy God then God is not omnipotent and lies.
#2 Both God and Satan are imaginary beings. I have no more faith in them than I do in Invisible Pink Unicorns or Purple Oysters of Doom.

Grace unto you, and peace,
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Aha... you're on to something about two Gods:
God in "heaven": "higher than the heavens"...Grace
God on "high", in the plural divided "heavens"...Law
Don't ppl recovering from highs speak of higher power.
Grace: can't lie nor die, neither tempts nor can be tempted
Law: can lie and die, entraps & can be hounded to change
In fact law God had an expiry date, expired long ago.
http://www.godshew.org/ShewBread9.htm
Grace: just judge: never changes; always grace us
Law: unjust judge: changes when hounded & provoked
Grace: I will never leave thee nor forsake thee: Friend
Law: I will forsake you, the city, & your fathers: Enmity
Christ is our peace who hath abolished the law(enmity)
Grace: God our Saviour: Grace is sufficient: Constructive
Law: God our Destroyer: Law worketh wrath: Destructive
Conclusion: Law is the deceiver; the forsaker, the accuser of the brethren: Jn 5:45; the thief: Jn 10:10; the ministration of condemnation & death: 1Cor 3:7,9; the source of sin: Rom 5:13
The Grace(God) of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Jehovah let satan rule the world. He thinks he is a better ruler than Jehovah!
Satan the Devil and his demons are also rulers. He is spoken of as "the ruler of this world" and "the ruler of the authority of the air." (Joh 12:31; 14:30; Eph 2:2) That all the governments of this world are under his power is indicated by his offering them to Jesus Christ at the price of an act of worship. (Mt 4:8, 9) Satan gives these governments their authority. (Re 13:2) Within his organization the demons also exercise ruling power. They are referred to as "the world rulers of this darkness" who have exercised authority over the world powers of history, as, for example, the invisible 'princes' over Persia and Greece. (Eph 6:12; Da 10:13, 20) Their ruler is, of course, the Devil himself.-Mt 12:24.
Satan did not create Humans, Jehovah did. So he should know how to rule us, the right way. Look at how satan rule us humans. Look at the world and see all the problem we face each day. Is this how life is supposed to be?
NO!

That is precisely the reason God allowed Satan to live in the first place - so that people can get a good look and know what Satan's rule is really like.

Nice try.
We are ALL warned at Rev. 16: 15, "Look! I am coming as a thief.----" and to "Keep on the watch" Matt. 26:41, and at Isa.55:11, God says, "so my word that goes forth from my mouth will Prove To Be. It will not return to me without results, but it will Certainly do that in which I have Delighted and IT WILL Have CERTAIN success in that for which I have sent IT."
God dwells in His secret place, in His heavenly realm, and has given us His Word, via The Bible, and in there are all the answers when people really search for them. Yes, God, our Holy Creator of Heaven and earth and the seas and all that is in them, can not be called the deceiver, only Satan bears that title. But God can be secretive and very clever so as to outwit Satan and his system of things as they now stand.

A lot of people here think "have you ever wondered if" means "do you think that". It's rather sad.
If it is Satan who is on the right path, somehow I doubt it would make any difference.

its all a matter of definitions.
what I call God is definitively correct and absolute.
not out of limitation against being capable of lying, but that definitionally isn't lying. an absolute omnipotent entity says something is so... its so. so it'd take deliberate misrepresentation and all... and that just wouldn't make sense or work at all.
but thats just the God I believe in

Good is a binding thing, whereas evil is a separating thing, hence the saying, "There is no honor (good) among theives. God calls himself good, and if God was evil (and deceiving is evil) we, as a race, would have been killed off eons ago!
