I am 14 years old, Freshman in high school. I practice on the range every day for 4-5 hours with 1 hour of short game/bunker practice. Also another hour for putting. My handicap is a 12 right now but my home course was under repair so I didn't get any course play. The handicap should go down because since the course is closed, all I do is practice and am playing way better and consistantly. My only down side is I'm pretty small and can only driver about 225-235 yards. I go to De La Salle High School in California. You know the one with the 141 game unbeaten football streak, #1 ranked football team in the country. Their Varsity won the state championship last year but I'm only trying for J.V. or Freshman.

Try out for the team regardless. Don't think you're not good enough. I started playing golf when I was 12 and by the time I got to high school, I was about a 12 handicap also. However, I didn't think I was good enough for the team and never checked out their scores. Well, years later as I was looking through a yearbook, I realized I could have beaten most of the guys on the team. Who knows -- it may have even led to a college scholarship. I have very few regrets in my life, but that's one of them. I loved the game (still do, I'm 40 now) and didn't pursue a spot on the HS golf team because I didn't think I was good enough. Don't wonder about it -- DO IT!!

I think it sounds like you're really doing great! Don't give up! Keep practicing hard. Do you have the option of golf school anywhere? Or maybe a golf pro at a local course that can show you how to improve your game? Check into these options and I'm sure you will thrive!

It sounds to me like you are doing fine in golf. My nephew plays for a high school team and he usually shoots in the mid 80s. Are you playing football too?

Most schools like mine don't have try outs a or anything you just show up and play, and in most colleges it is the same way

Well good luck!
