The main risk in donating a kidney are post-op bleeding and infection. Your kidney serve as filter of substances before it goes to the bloodstream. If you donate your kidney, you have to be more careful in your diet especially the intake of high sodium and sugar (example: soda, beer, salty food, and etc) because these damages your kidney. Smoking contribute in kidney failure as well. The work load for a single kidney is high if you compare to 2 kidneys working together.

I don't know of any websites, but some of the risks include post-op bleeding and infection and the possibility that someday your remaining kidney could be damaged by disease or injury and you wouldn't have a backup. Still, with modern technology the risks, while still there, aren't as great as they were in the past. I personally think that people who participate as living donors are some of the most generous people on earth.
