I want to serve in the MIlitary, but at the same time be sure I get stationed somewhere around my fiance (Not getting maried for another year). I know I'll proabably get deployed to Iraq or somewhere else, but I mean like when I'm in the US..So I was thinking National Guard?..But I'm pretty sure its just a reserve type thing, or is it active duty? If not..what do you suggest?

If you are sincere then you will read my response.

The good is that you have room and food for almost nothing except your obedience to superiors. You can take the opportunity to improve your education and visit places that you cannot do so due to financial constraints. Before joining decide what piques your interest and prepare mentally to include formal and informal education and get in shape physically.

Get a copy of Army Regulations and the U.C.M.J.

Be All You Can Be

Now for the dark side.

Staff Sergeant Stuart A Gerlisky was a VietNam veteran that had almost 20 years and was preparing to retire. He had an accident were he was physically hurt. The US Army which is in reality has becomed an uncontrolled for profit business fought him at every level along with the Veterans Administration and won.

What was the issue ?

They did not want him to receive any medical health care because it costs a lot of money. His lower back was injured severely it did not allow him to continue to do his job in a professional manner: He was a Recruiter.

Sadly his son Chris wrote that SSG Gerlisky had died an angry and resentful with the US Army and the VA. He served with honour and opened opportunites that other recruiters did not. Other recruiters exploited young people and twisted facts but SSG Gerlisky was the opposite because he loved The United States of America and the US Constitution. The motto of the US Army: "This We'll Defend", Recruiters and Drill Sergeants have it on their patches.

The others are that you have limited freedom of speech and have to follow to military rules and regulations: Army Regulations, Army Regs, and the Uniform of Militray Justice,U.C.M.J.

Planning what you decide for YOUR future will go will be criticial.

go ACTIVE DUTY you getter better benefits and perks.

Ok first off, don't listen to the people that are just saying Marine Corps or Semper - Fi. There are Pros and Cons in each branch. You should try to do some re-search on each branch. See which one fits you the best. For in-stints, The Marine Corps has 6-8 Moths Deployments While the Army has 12-15 Month long Deployments. The Army has more Enlistment Bonuses And Re-Enlistment Bonuses. The Army also has all of these Schools like Airborne School, Ranger School, Air Assault School. There is a whole lot other stuff you have to look into. Of Course everyone will say go Marine Corps but thats because theyre Gung Ho. I have respect for both branches.

For your own safety you should join the military at once and deploy to Iraq. The death rate over their is less than the rate of deaths by auto accidents for those of military age.

Seriously
The military will work with you as much as they can on duty stations while you are not deployed. But there is no question that being in the military for a long period is going to involve a lot of family travel. Some people like this. I grew up as a navy brat and got to live all over the place. I loved it and joined the Army when my time came. It is a good life but not for everyone. Talk to the recruiters and talk to people who are currently active duty. Get all the facts and make your decision.

I do know that if you join the national guard you will be stationed near the town or the city you live in. My best freind's husband is in the army national guard and he is stationed about 20 mile from their house. Also while it is likely you will get deployed, it doesn't mean that it will necessarily be to the Middle East. He just got deployed to Kosovo on a UN peace keeping mission.

You will be safer in Iraq than in the major cities of the U.S. Where more people are killed in a major city each year than in soldiers Iraq. Just about as many policemen are killed inside the U.S. as in Iraq. Especially if you count drownings, suicides and other accidental deaths as they do in Iraq.

More U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq than the number of people killed in the World Trade Center.

Someone needs to speak up.

You can be stationed anywhere you want... As long as it's in your enlistment contract. :)
