because the people who originally wrote the bible were men. they assumed that god had to be one gender and of coarse it was male because god could not be a woman. women are inferior.

It has been adopted from the bible to call God 'He'.
You are 100% right that God is not a male (or female).
If you consider that it has been adpated from the bible then also consider those who wrote the bible and those who God spoke to.
The old testament was written by the hebrews, a people who were not very scientific by nature. They knew nothing of a womans eggs etc. So the woman was like a vessel for life while man was needed to 'create' life (of course we now know much more through science). Perhaps this is why they immediately gave God a male connotation (fathering creation). But also God would only have revealed himself in a masculine sense to ensure the respect of these people (females largely did not have a leadership role in the community).
However, I am content in the knowledge that God has no gender, but i will probably still reference him as male due to common acceptance and standards which we have for the bible. If we changed this what would it be changed to??
You're still right but i'm not sure anything else seems fitting. Giving God a gender for reference purposes makes God more personal and I like that.

A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
Psalms 68:5
Many verses with God called father.
Look up the words father and fatherless in a Greek -Hebrew interlinear.
Let Him be your Father.

Well that depends in what context you mean. For example, In genesis, god does not say "Let me [do this]" But rather "Let us [do this]" It's plural because of 2 possible reasons:
1. God is refering to himself and the angels. I don't think this is what It means though.
2. God is referring to himself as part of the trinity (Father, Son, Holy spirit) Because God is "three in one" He says "let us" I think that this is more likely of the 2 possible reasons, than the first one.

God is refereed to "he" in most religions, because God has been known as the father of Jesus. Remember that throughout many years of history, men had more authority than women.

God is spirit and is neither male or female.
Jesus referred to God the Father. Genesis 1:27 So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
We are His children. Israel / Jews are His chosen people. That's just the way the Bible refers to God. Perhaps it's so we humans can wrap our minds around it.?.?
Is it really a big deal?

It is just a facet of language. I'm almost surprised that there aren't more feminine references in the Greek New Testament. Where both masculine and feminine nouns exist on the same root describing something besides an animal, the feminine is usually "bigger picture."
For instance:
Petros - Peter:(m) pebble
Petra: (f) bolder / bedrock - The confession on which the church was to be built.
Oiokonomia:(f) management
Oiokonomos:(m) manager

Why can't God be referred to as "He"? That is what God is referred to many times in the Bible.

"HE" didn't "say" anything!
That which is referred to as God, Allah, does not have language or writing or gender etc.
These things are Attributes attributed by HUMANS in order to allow themselves to grasp something which is otherwise ungraspable.
You all know how graspy humanity is...
That is why we created gods, etc instead of simply doing what we know is best for one another.
Be among the first on your block to cease and desist from being one of the "He" Sayers...
The unknowable is unknown to be he or she.
Just be.
