Welcome to the USA, I have been to austrailia and I can tell you The people are the same, except we don't have funny accent's(from our perspective anyway) I am sure you'll find some jerks out there just as in your country in sure, but for the most part people are good.

I moved to Georgia 6 years ago. I came with a foreigners superior attitude towards American that I think is pretty common - that they would all be obnoxious, carry guns etc. I have made the most amazing friends here. I am so far from home and family and the people in my neighbourhood knew that. They quickly became the net beneath my circus. I feel safe here and settled. We have made friends with people of different cultures, religious beliefs and races. They will be friends to me and my family for life.
While i don't live in ATL we do go into the city from time to time.
There is lots to do. The aquarium is worth a visit as is the High museum of art. The botanical gardens are nice too. We have seen some great musical acts at the Fox, Variety Playhouse and the Tabernacle. This sounds kind of hokey but apple picking in the fall is really a good way to spend the day. Pick up a copy of Creative Loafing.

Well, Atlanta is a big city. My husband drives a big truck and hates Atlanta. He waits to go through it until rush time traffic is over. There is always a wreck or two, especially when it rains. you will find a very diverse population there, people from every country and state in the USA also. They are used to all ethnic groups there. It is like any huge city. you need to be careful and not be out at night in certain areas. Don't trust everyone and be cautious, being a woman you are at risk for many kinds of crimes. bring clothes for warm and cold climate. The summers are very hot and you can get some cold weather in winter, even an occasional snow fall. Look up Atlanta GA on Google and find the chamber of commerce site. It will give you a lot of statistics that will help you. Such as cost of living, population and incomes and things like that. Good luck. be careful and have fun too! We love Australians in America.

We're okay with Aussies, and love the accent. Atlanta, though?

Horrendous traffic, urban sprawl like you won't believe, but a decent football team. Good luck and welcome :)
