Iraq is very complicated. To try to simplify it is hard. There are three big groups in Iraq, the Kurds, the Shiites and the Sunni. They would rather be separate, but they were held together by a brutal dictator Saddam Hussein. When we went in we took away Saddam and now the three groups are fighting for control over what is left behind. The situation is out of control, and the number of troops we have many have suggested is not enough. The US General in charge is saying he may need more to keep the Bagdad from becoming worse than it is now. We will find out if Iraq can be held together as it is, or if it will fall apart into separate states without someone like Saddam to force them together. I hope that helps

On the seventies General William Westmoreland, ask for more troops in Vietnam, the figure ran to 600 000 soldiers there, but USA lost that war.
The same is happening now in Iraq.
