Yes, both my wife and I belong.

They do offer insurance - it is expensive, but reasonable in relation to what is available outside of AARP.

AARP offers reasonably priced insurance for its members. AARP brings together a large group of people to whom insurance carriers can easily market. Costs can be kept down because the carrier deals direct with the consumer and has minimal administrative costs. However, offsetting that cost savings is the fact that there is minimal underwriting so the people who do buy the insurance are more likely to use it (submit claims). To make such a venture profitable, the insurance policies are typically inflexible, offer minimal benefits (NY Life's insurance policy is capped at $25,000, for instance), and are 'bare-bones' coverage. It's not "bad" insurance - just not the best out there. It can be very valuable to people who can't qualify for anything else. An exception is the auto insurance (Hartford) - it's pretty good and it can save some people money.

It's not expensive, you have to be 50 I think, and what you get is magazines and a newspaper. From what I see, looks like AARP is for retirees and seniors and advocates for these in politics and governments, the magazines focus on senior health, tips, finances, and so on. And they advertise supposed insurance deals, car deals, travel deals, etc., geared to retirees and seniors.

Any N. Y. Life product is "off the charts" expensive. AARP is good for a cheap motel rate if you are out driving around. That's about all I ever got from them.

I would recommend one to try this web page where you can compare rates from different companies: http://INSURE-HELP.COM/index.html?src=5YAqqC1AOR8gjm1
