What are the side effects of coffee/ caffeine?

my art teacher drinks alot of coffee, and when she stops drinking them for a long time, she becomes short tempered.

Coffee is a stimulant, you get sort of addicted if you use it regularly, quitting it can give you a headache. From what I have read about coffee, its good for you--good for your brain, your circulation, your digestion, so as long as you don't over do it, it should not be a problem. Thats what I keep telling myself as I chug my coffee!!

What caffine does do is expand the capillaries when being used. But when not being used the capillaries shrink to an even smaller size than normal causing headaches and a craving for more caffine to make the headache go away.

caffeine makes a person anxious and nervous. they may also experience insomnia, or lack of ability to sleep. caffeine withdrawal causes a bad mood in the person as well, as seems to be the case with your art teacher. withdrawal can also cause flu-like symptoms, headaches, lack of motivation, and feelings of lethargy. in extreme cases where high doses of caffeine are present, the heart rate increases rapidly and the person may go into anaphylactic shock, which is a loss of the ability to breath.
