Any type of infection, and maybe they haven't tested your dad for everything yet. I had a temperature of 108 and was rushed into hospital. It took 2 days to get all the test results. Had pneumonia, pleurisy on one lung, shingles and a kidney infection. What I'm saying is, your dad probably had an infection of some sort which can be cured with anti-biotics. Just try and be patient until the docs know what they're treating. Hope your dad's better soon. I'm sure he will be

Fevers are caused by infection, of any kind. It could be somthing as simple as a tooth ache or a typical flu bug. If the temperature went down and stayed down with treatmen, tylonal, cold pack/cold bath etc... than it is probably just a flu or a minor infection. If it continues high or continues to fluxuate up and down then it is likely a more serious infection. I my uncle recently died as a result of an infection not directly related to his ilness.
So infections and fevers should be taken very seriously especially if the fever persist for more than 24 hours up to 101 and half the time up to 104 anything 104 and up is a hospital trip and a cold bath.

Heat exhaustion can do that--I had a temperature of 105.2 when I was a kid... NOT FUN!! My mom didn't know what to do, and just put a fan and some cool wash cloths on me.
I found out years later that what she SHOULD HAVE done was take me to the ER immediately, since anything near that high can cause brain damage. I'm incredibly lucky.
And mad at her... grrr.
Fevers aren't something to mess with!
So yeah, heat exhaustion/stroke, any sort of infection. Pretty vague, unfortunately.

there is infection somwhere in the body. When the body temperature rises it means that the body is healing itself. Most of the time a temperature is a good sign. But when it is 105 F you need to go to the hospital right away.
