Ok, so there is a guy at my work whom i've become quite friendly with in the past month or so. We flirt a bit, just real nice and cute most of the time. He'll always make an effort to talk to me or stop by the lab to chat if he see's i'm not busy. So today (he winked at me when i passed him in the hall) i was dressed as pebbles and he made a comment about it, ya know just teased a bit it a cute way. And i pretended that i actually cared, more so just to keep the conversation going...like i said it's always real flirty and cute. So he says, "Ok i'm sorry, maybe i can make it up to you and buy you lunch sometime...today or tomorrow whatever you want" i was almost speechless i've been waiting for this guy to ask me out for a while now. I didn't get a chance to see him for the rest of the day so i guess i'll have to take initiative tomorrow. I assumed he was asking me out on a date, sort of. Do you think it sounds that way to you? Or just a casual lunch with a coworker?

it may not be a date but its not a casual lunch either ==== go be yourself have a good time --- see if there is something more there and maybe there will be a second meeting out of work

The fact that both of you were flirting makes it more likely to be a date, but it could also just be a casual lunch.

Sounds like he was looking for an opportunity or reason to ask you. Now, just relax, treat it like a casual lunch and let him make it special. Then get jazzed about it. This sounds like a connection to me.
