Good question. The "prince" is also known as lucifer; satan; the devil; the adversary; prince of demons; beelzebub; abaddon, appolyon...etc.

The "air" meaning the atmosphere around us - specifically referring to SPIRITUAL terms - not that satan is causing weather patterns. The devil does have "free reign" as you put it - but only for the time God allows before Jesus returns.

Remember God is in control of all things on the planet including the "life energy" or the "ozone." God created "the laws of nature" and put them in motion at the beginning of time as we know it and everything since is cause-and-effect. Satan doesn't have the power to control the weather or "life" on the planet. He only has the power to TEMPT human choices.

Ultimately, and thankfully, we have the power to choose God over satan every time!

In the book of Daniel...unfortunately I don't remember what chapter (maybe 9), there is an angel messenger who appears to Daniel and apologizes for taking so long to arrive. He informs Danny that he was caught up in a battle with the prince of the kingdom...

An angel that can't beat up a prince? no wonder he's just a messenger. Michael (the archangel, called here one of the chief angels) came and bailed this messenger out. As a matter of fact, he did battle with this prince of the power of the air before all of this, but that's a different story :-D.

The real meaning is that each kingdom had a demon that was appointed over it (another prince is mentioned later, again, i'm sorry for my ambiguity on references), and the head demon, Lucifer, is the prince of all of the powers of the air.

The phrase is a reference to the fact that Satan has a lot of control in the world in this dispensation. He will lose his control and be cast into the lake of Fire eventually, but for now he is mostly in charge (it is an authority that God has allowed Him to have for an appointed amount of time - an amount that no person knows).

I don't know if that cleared things up or if i just muddied the waters more. good luck in your search. hope i helped.

Satan is the prince of the power of the air.

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

-And to believers:
Ephesians 2:2
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

This world is strongly addicted to sports, music, and various forms of entertainment. Unless they violate Scriptural principles, enjoying such things is not necessarily wrong. But the problem is that Satan, “the ruler who governs the air,” has corrupted much of the entertainment available today. (Ephesians 2:2, The Jerusalem Bible) Often, immorality is promoted, violence is condoned, and success through deceit, fraud, and even murder is portrayed. When we watch such entertainment, we breathe these attitudes deeply into our system, and their toxic effects are bound to harm us. Moreover, even where some forms of entertainment are not Scripturally objectionable, there is a danger of becoming addicted to them, so that little time is left for spiritual things. Hence, we need to be selective. Take time to enjoy some healthful and beneficial relaxation in moderation, but avoid imitating the excesses of the world. Whether this world’s “air” smells good or acrid, it is polluted and deadly!—Proverbs 11:19.

The Devil.

The answer should be in the verse:

Ephesians 2:2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

"the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" indicates that it's a "spirit" and seems to show an influence "in the children of disobedience".

hope this helps.

GOD bless.

Most people stop reading this section of scripture at the end of verse two, but read on, verse three tells you who the prince of the power of the air is.
Ephesians 2:3
among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
The prince of the power of the air is the lusts of the flesh.

This reveals to us that every human being who has ever lived (except Jesus) has been enslaved to a way of thinking generated by the prince of the power of the air, Satan.

Because of this, we fulfilled the desires of our flesh and mind.

Indeed, because our minds had little else with which to work, we could not produce anything else! We produced the fruits of a spirit but not the Spirit of God.

the devil is the prince and power of the air. it has nothing to do with manna. that was heavenly food. it means that the devil controls this earth, evev though the earth and the fullness therof is God's, still the devil has power over it because of Adam's sin. when adam sinned, him having dominion over the earth because God gave him full dominion, he gave it all over to the devil.

It's the devil, Satan. It never was manna, the bread of the holy angels, if that is the manna you were talking about. The devil rules here on earth as much as God allows him. God has the ultimate power.
