I had a similar problem when I was at high school and learnt that my friend was really only using me as leverage when anybody else was around. If we were alone, we were on equal footing and she would treat me with respect but once there were others around she'd try to act superior and would try use me as a way to make herself feel better via trying to make me the butt of her jokes. The weird thing was, she copied absolutely everything I did, right down to the music I listened to and even if she'd never heard of it before. The heartening thing about the situation was, all our friends were aware that she was a loser and suffered low self esteem. I tried talking to her about it but she would deny everything. In the end, the only thing I could do was distance myself from her as I later discovered she was telling lies and spreading rumours behind my back but was too gutless to take ownership of her actions. I'm not saying your friend is doing this, but it sounds like she has a very low self-esteem and you need to be wary and if there's no improvement, distance yourself from her.

Hmmm......
What I would do is give her a taste of her own medicine (act the same way). If that doesn't work, then I'd have other people back me up on it next time I talked to her, and I could use them as "witnesses" to say that she has changed.
That's what I would do, but I'm not sure if that's what you would do, either way good luck!

It sounds like she puts up a good front and feels she has a certain image that she has to portray to everyone around her. Maybe you should talk to her about it and find out what she is thinking and why she feels the need to be somebody she really isn't....
