I don't think there's any particular date for when mold in general was discovered... it's just always been around, mucking things up. It's like asking when fruit was discovered.

If you are talking about a specific type of mold, or different uses for mold, that's another story.

Molds are fungi and have probably always been noticed. things are always being discovered about mold. Most famously, in 1928 Alexander Fleming discovered penicilin which is a mold with antibiotic properties. More recently, there have been a number of law suits related to mold contamination. Some are valid but like in so many other cases lawyers filed suits before having the facts. Most molds can't make it past your lungs and are pretty weak. The obvious acception would be individuals with HIV/AIDS or are otherwise immunosuppressed.

Mold has been around for a very long time. In fact, if you read the bible and the sanitation rules that were laid out for the Hebrews, it described how if certain discolorations were discovered the item was to be cleaned and kept separate from everything else for a week. And if the discoloration still existed, the item was to be burned.
