I'm taking a group of about 400 to New York City in July 2007. I need to find "cheap" loding for 7 nights with easy subway access so our buses don't have to haul us into the city every day. Any ideas?

I should have added...we secured lodging months ago in the dorms at a local university. A couple of days ago, they changed their contract with us from $100 per person for the entire stay (which is what we had the last time we were in NYC with this group) to $50 per person per night, which is way way out of our price range. We've stayed in a variety of places, from dorms to hotels to cabins...anyplace we can do CHEAP. Oh, and yes, this is a youth group of sorts. About 300 high school students and 100 staff. Thanks so much for the responses!!

I would try a big hotel in Times Square. If you call the group sales office, you should be able to get a great group rate. Try the Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott, or other big name hotel. Times Square is a great place for tourists to stay, close to Subways, many attractions, very central.

Another option would be to stay at a hotel in Jersey City near the Path Train. This is like a subway, will take you straight to the city, 10 minutes or less. Or one of the Newark Airport Hotels. There is an "AirTrain" from Newark to Penn Station, which is convenient, but may get a bit expensive, and difficult with a group that large.

Good luck!

You might actually find less expensive lodging outside the city like in Jersey City, NJ. Easily accessible to the NYC Subway. You can also go through a Sales Manager of a hotel to get a group rate.

I assume this is a school or church group. You need to work with a good, reliable travel coordinator. Perhaps ask the bus company if they have a suggestion.

NYC is very large. Do you have a central location in mind?
