If you are speaking about Christians, we don't believe in fairy tales or fables.
2 Peter 1:16 "For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty." The people who wrote the New Testament were eyewitnesses to the things He did in His life while on earth.
If you ever read the Bible from cover to cover, you will KNOW that scripture was inspired by God. There is no way man could have thought up such perfection. Peace.

It takes time for myths and legends to develop. So the question, When were these books written?, is important. Michael Grant, a historian, says that the historical writings of the Christian Greek Scriptures were begun “thirty or forty years after Jesus’ death.” Biblical archaeologist William Foxwell Albright cited C. C. Torrey as concluding “that all the Gospels were written before 70Â A.D. and that there is nothing in them which could not have been written within twenty years of the Crucifixion.” Albright’s own opinion was that their writing was completed “not later than about 80Â A.D.” Others come up with slightly different estimates, but most agree that the writing of the “New Testament” was completed by the end of the first century.
What does this mean? Albright concludes: “All we can say is that a period of between twenty and fifty years is too slight to permit of any appreciable corruption of the essential content and even of the specific wording of the sayings of Jesus.” Professor Gary Habermas adds: “The Gospels are quite close to the period of time which they record, while ancient histories often describe events which took place centuries earlier. Yet, modern historians are able to successfully derive the events even from these ancient periods of time.”
In other words, the historical parts of the Christian Greek Scriptures are worthy of at least as much credence as secular histories. Certainly, in the few decades between the events of early Christianity and their being recorded in writing, there was no time for myths and legends to develop and be universally accepted.

Christians do not even know the history of their own bible. It is a book of myths and legends compiled and edited by the church. It was never meant to be taken literally. The stories were only there for moral guidance.
All throughout history man has made religion, especially before the modern age. To satisfy their own need for answers of questions and things they could not explain (at the time, which now we can so we don't need religion anymore)
Today in the United States the people have the freedom and choose to be controlled by merely a book and a money hungry, (boy loving) church.
It is truly pathetic.
If you look through the bible you can find stories (including the story of Christ) and compare them to other stories in different religions of different times and places and you will find so many similarities. This is because the bible is just a modification and compilation of those stories.
Don't forget the crusades, yeah they killed millions of people for their own pleasure but they also destroyed most of the existing records and history of the world outside of and before christ. Doesn't this say something? The church has something to hide.
And oh yeah don't forget how the church made up all these miracles to con the faith on to people. Its all a scam.
One of the ten commandments is (who cares which one) is shall not steal... or something. The followers of god are the biggest thief's in existents. (Other than human kind itself). Everything that Christians hold dear is a rip off, a theft, a plagiarism of other peoples, religions cultures and belief systems. Mostly Pagan Religions. Every Christian holiday (Xmas, Easter etc etc) was stolen from pagan tradition. Jesus (if he even existed) was not born on the 25th of Dec, no one really knows when he was really born. The church set it at that date to compete with the other pagan holidays set on that same day.
Science can and has proved that a lot of the bible is practically impossible. Atheism is not based on the disbelief of god. It is based on scientific fact, knowing what is real and what is not.
And on my ending note, your god is an evil one. Have you read your precious bible lately? Your so called "good book" teaches not only to love and care for one another but also to kill, rape, murder, enslave and "destroy" each other. It is all there in your "good book".

We believe in things unseen because the Lord rewards those who remain faithful. God's fairy tales and fables (your words not mine) add peace, blessing and favor to my life. Who are you to say other wise?

They aren't fables and fairy tales. If I don't believe you own a penis you don't see me marching around stating your genita;ia as a myth! Basically, we all believe something different and saying that one's beliefs are fairy tales is pretty gay.

It is an evolutionary holdover from a useful trait that predisposed children to listen to authority figures. Nature selects for the people who heed mom's advice about not petting the crocodiles. We have an inbred need to have someone tell us what to do. Grown people overcome this need.

mac5doc has an excellent point - one cannot trust history either....just look at that fool Josephus, who Christians look to for historical evidence of Jesus... Josephus has been proven to be a biased, non-historical historian.... so I guess she is right!
msender - the fact that science changes as new discoveries are made shows that science can change and adapt with new information. The fact that you cannot change nor adapt when given new evidence shows that your religion is in its death throes.
