Hi there...in order to import any video file into iMovie you will need a codecs to convert. Perhaps Divx http://www.divx.com/ may be able to do this.

You should be able to, you will need a DivX codec for iMovie to be able to read it properly. It still might not work with that, but give it a shot. You can also get programs that will convert the AVI to whatever you want. As for the mpg files they have it set up so the audio is not exportable/importable, it's a protection thing. AVI's don't.
