With the bloodly parts of the job.. does it just become, like a 'walk in the park after a while'.. At first can it be overwhelming but then fade away??-becoming desensitized

I have a really good friend that is a Hygienist.. She loves it.. She said though if you mind the sound of drilling when the dentist is at work, you should be ok.. She said she just blocks it out.. Hope this helps.. Oh yeah, shes been doing it for 4 yrs now.. and still at it.. :) I think its a wise decision that you want to make something of yourself, and thats a good thing.. Good Luck :) !!

Not a lot of blood and gore but you do have to see some sick things so dont go into it if you have a weak stomach.
Also very difficult to get into a school so start applying immediately. It may take you years to get into a program so be prepared. Try dental assisting first if you cant get into a program right away. It will also help you decide if you want to go further and become a dental hygienist.
I take radiographs on dead people by the way, as part of my dental hygiene program.

Honestly, people who go into the dental field are more financially driven and motivated by how others view them, whereas studies have shown other med fields have people who feel a satisfaction from helping others. If you honestly feel that youre enrolling just to make money, you arent alone. Im planning on becoming a dental hygienist, it took me about a year to figure that out. There is a lot of support for people studying to become a dentist. I want to say its a great choice but its really up to you where you want to be in the future.

It is a good profession and you can help alot of people by cleaning their teeth. You teach them the correct way to take care of them at home. We need more people to care about others and not just be in it for the money. You will make good money and you will help alot of people. Sometimes it's not enough to have a good dentist, they need a great hygienist.

Man, there CAN be a lot of blood when you are trying to clean up a dirty mouth. Gums can be pretty messy when they are not healthy.
