Actually Hyundai does offer navigation systems on most of their models, even the Elantra, in Korea. But they don't offer it in the US on any model yet. Maybe because their reputation for cheap cars doesn't warrant anyone looking for a nav system in an Elantra. They should have offered it in the Azera though I think, and they still might in the upcoming Veracruz.
They've announced a deal with Garmin to sell Nav systems through their US dealers, but the model they mention is suction-cup mounted, not built-in... eh...

Look for them to be in late model 2007 and 2008 including Hyundai's newest SUV the Veracruz. Hyundai also teamed up with Garmin and sells a GPS unit which attacts to the windsheild. It is pre-loaded with all Hyundai dealerships and other things.
As far as Hyundai just coming with base options.
Go look at an Azera, Entouage or New Santa Fe. Rain sensing wiper blades, electronic tilt wheel, adjustable foot pedals, are avaiable to start. hmm wonder if that is considered base. Not to mention that they have a higher quality rating than Honda and Toyota, and a better warranty.

Because they're too cheap. Check out something that's worthwile, and doesn't look designed by two year olds, such as anything else. Anyone else but me think that all of the Kia/Hyundai lineup looks awkwardly dispositioned? Just my opinion. Hyundai/Kia must have some good factors, especially in the economy niche. However, such a Luxurious feature in Hyundais, such as a Nav. System, just doesn't seem right. It's most likely they've targeted their vehicles to people looking for just the vehicle, with just basic things (& AC/mp3CD/Power Windows...). Just relate how Hyundai/Kia hasn't a luxury/performance brand... So the market just isn't there.

Management decision at this point. Although there is probably nothing published from the company perspective, I would say that the general price point on the Hyundai's as well as the significant expense that a GPS adds, keeps them from putting them on the line. Having said that, the prices on GPS are continuing to come down at the OEM level (generally compared to earlier versions) and the are many portable GPS units that can be transferred from car to car, so the Hyundai market may be first to market with something that is more in line with their pricing strategy. The Azera and Sonata would be a good candidates as they can probably undercut the Honda Accord/Civic models with GPS. That's my view at this time.

You're likely to see them in 2008 models once the prices are low enough from a mass production standpoint.
Another reason is that Navigation systems use more power and require a redesign of dashes - something that Honda and Toyota have already accomplished with their redesigns.

Because people who buy Hyundai cars arn't looking for bells and whistles. If they were, they'd buy a Honda or Toyota.
