We have an older tabby kitten who has been an only pet since we've had him. We just got a new siamese kitten today, and the tabby just wants to fight him nonstop! He goes for the throat and we're afraid he may try to kill him. He's about at adolescent age and much bigger than the siamese. Any advice on how to get him to be accepting of the new kitten?

The oldest one is about 7-8 months old and the new kitten is about 6 weeks.

At six weeks, that kitten should still be with it's momma. Unfortunately, many people give away their kittens at that age. They do alright... but it's not ideal. Anyway... too late to do anything about that.

The 6wk old is WAY too little to be playing with the older kitty. They can hang out together... but it's up to you to keep the little guy safe. He could get seriously injured very easily. Your older kitten probably isn't trying to hurt him... but he doesn't know his own strength.

I agree completely with the other poster who suggested you get your older kitty neutered. Most vets these days will neuter a cat at 4 months. The younger you have them done, the less chance you have of ending up with a "sprayer". Once a cat starts spraying, they don't always stop when they get neutered.

Even so, the only thing you can really do right now is keep an eye on them. Let them play gently... but break it up when the little guy starts screaming. As he gets bigger, he'll be able to take on the bigger kitten and they'll have a blast playing together... but right now he could get hurt without your help.

Cats play extremely rough - are you sure its pure aggression, or is he overly excited for his new little playmate? At any rate, since they are both kittens, it may take a few days to adjust but they will probably end up being such great pals they will ignore you altogether. I have the same exact scenario, but my older kitten is the siamese and the younger the tabby. I've had them both now for about 3 months and they are best friends, even when they play a little rough for my liking.

Is the older kitten neuterred? If not, take care of it: He'll be a little less territorial, and it might save you trouble of other sorts too.

Try putting the younger kitten where the older one can smell him but not attack him. A pet carrier or a spare room should work well.

Good luck!

They are playing kitten style. They are not trying to kill each other. Look at it as 2 male siblings. Sometimes they fight REALLY bad but they are not trying to kill each other (well, not usually, anyhow).

That is how kittens learn how to hunt and such, by play fighting.

What you have described is COMPLETELY normal.

Are both kittens fixed? Fixing him may calm him down although they will still probably play rough.
