All kids get sick in cars at some point or another or you've got to take them to the doctor when they are sick and they lose it in the car. Try to be prepared when you know that they are sick with a bucket, bowl, towel, plastic bag anything. Or for potty issues put a towel under them if you think it might be an issue. It is very frustrating when my 12 year old gets sick and can't hold it in the car. But he honestly can't help it because he can barely control it at home when he is that sick. So I try not to yell and throw him a towel to hold in his lap or a bag or whatever and get home asap. No, we don't discuss it afterwards. That would be mean and would serve no point that I can see.

It's understandable that your son would be struggling. He left his native country at age thirteen-- so he has memories of it, and probably left friends behind. He'll have had a tough transition, learning a new language and culture at that age. Also, after having been with your family for just two years, he may not be securely attached yet (that doesn't mean he doesn't care about you, but there are different stages of attachment, and he may be attached to you but just not securely yet.) None of this makes you a bad mother. The fact that you're worried suggests you're a good, caring mother. Your son does need therapy. Make sure to get a counselor who is familiar with dealing with adoption issues, and won't minimize that or act like your son should be grateful to you. In your son's situation it's not surprising that he's struggling, but he still does need some help. He could potentially become suicidal, and it's important to keep him from going down that road. You're a good mother, and your son needs you. Even if he doesn't show it. You're doing the right thing by being concerned, and getting him some help before this escalates.

my son threw-up once in the car on a trip. he was 3 yrs old at the time. i stopped, cleaned him up the best i could. put some dirty clothes on him, he still smelled. drove to a gas station and cleaned him up with soap and water and put clean clothes on him. i rinsed out the other clothes and put them in a plastic bag. i asked how he felt, he said fine. i put him back in the car and he fell asleep. that was 34 yrs ago. i never though about it until i read your question.

why would you bring it up, when they throw it's a horrible feeling, why would you want to make them remember that. My niece was 3 1/2 when she puked, and we just cleaned it up and made her feel better.

My daughter threw up in her stepfathers car (His pampered coach-LOL). Well, she of course felt sick, then guilty (always thinking of others). I felt like laughing- his car was like SO pristine and clean. HE felt like puking too, and supressed a little anger- but it was hilarious after she wasn't feeling sick anymore. We laugh about it to this day- only because it is an example of my husband anal retentive feelings toward a car.

usually just make sure they are comfortable. don't make them play video games or read in the car while it's moving. And DON'T drive fast!

Kids get carsick. Big deal. Why would you bring it up when they are older? They will have to deal with you in your old age pretty soon.
