The inner ear controls your balance. Nerves in your ear sense liquid and if there is something obstructing it you feel like you're in every direction all at once. If you get a little rock build up in your ear, you get extreme vertigo, this is called Labyrinthitis. The doctors can do a maneuver to fix the vertigo or you just have to wait it out.

The inner ear helps to maintain the body's balance. When a person has fluid in the ear or an infection or even a hole in the eardrum, they might feel dizzy and off-balance. If this is a persistent feeling, a trip to the Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor may be in order. While it's not uncommon to get this feeling, it can be indicative of a much larger problem that needs medical care.

Vertigo is the disturbance of the fluid in the inner ear. That fluid maintains your balance, your equilibrium. Recall what you feel like when you are spinning. Once you stop, you are dizzy and disoriented because the fluid inside your ear is moving. I do not believe there is a cure, except for lying down to stop the dizziness.
