Great question, I have heard that too & always wondered if it was true - the way they drive I wouldn't be surprised but then again if they (insurance cos) made that rule there, they would have to consider the whole of Paris & many urban areas of Italy too (never been so scared in my life :-o !!!)

I think what happens is that comprehensive insurance becomes third party - your insurance company wouldn't pay out for damage to your own car, but will still meet claims against you from third parties. And I think it's only French insurance companies.

That's quite correct, if you saw the kamikaze drivers on suicide missions you would understand why.
I lived there for 2 years and my hair turned grey driving on it.
