As an alternative, offer them a healthy snack like nuts or fruit...
I disagree with some of the previous answers...yes, they are growing kids, but after eating a full meal, a sandwich is really too much. It's that permissiveness and "oh, they're just growing" attitude that contributes to childhood (and adolescent) obesity. (I'm not saying it is the only contributor, just one of many)
Also, it may also be important to address why they asked for a sandwich in the first place. Are they still hungry? Honestly, truly hungry? Was their dinner not filling enough? Or is it because they're bored and they just want to pass the time eating? Are they "emotional" eaters- eating a lot when stressed, happy, excited, etc?

They are at the age when they are almost always hungry. Nothing wrong with a sandwich if they are not on any special kind of diet. Let them make their own though.

If my 10 year old can make a sandwich then so can they.
If they don't have weight issues then by all means let them have a sandwich, kids are always hungry in my experience.
I want my kids to eat healthily, I include them in all kinds of food preperation, I don't want them to be adults who survive on junk, Why can't your kids make a sandwich? I know it's nice to do things for them but you also need to prepare them for adulthood, get them trained lol

get a job?
If I asked my mom to make me a sandwich at that age she would have laughed. especially after you've fed them. give them some fruit or a cup of tea. and then tomorrow, teach them how to prepare sandwiches all by themselves.

As long as they are not wasting food and cleaning up after themselves, they should be allowed to make themselves a sandwich.

You're old enough to make your own. By the way, Mum wants a ham and tomato sandwich.

Tell them to run around the block. When they come back, tell them they went the wrong way and to run around the block again the other way. When they come back let them each have half a peanut butter sandwich, with water. Then tell them to take a bath and go to bed.
