My cat has just been diagnosed with CRF and is home recovering, but I cannot get him to eat. What can I do?

1. Try using a small vet syringe and put sweetened porridge in it and put the syringe into the SIDE of his mouth and gently squeeze into his mouth bit by bit at his own pace. (If you put it into the front of his mouth it could choke him and it is more difficult to do).

2. Sometimes if you heat some fish in the microwave (not battered) the smell increases the appetite.

3. Mince up chicken to a paste and mix a little water with it,either hand feed it or use the syringe.

4. Rice is also good for recovering cats so you can add rice to the minced chicken.

It doesn't matter if he only takes a little. Just repeat this every 1 - 2 hours throughout the day.

I hope this helps and little kitty gets well soon.

Well, if your cat is not eating, it is because his body is telling him that the thing his body needs now most is rest.

It takes alot of energy for our bodies to digest food and that is why when we are sick or when we are angry or upset, we tend to experience a loss in appetite becuase what the body needs most then is rest and peace.

Just give him food when his meal times come. He will eat when he is ready to.

Good luck ;)

Have you tried offering him tuna water? I normally don't suggest people food for a critter, but this is one exception.

Or you could get a tube of high-nutrition paste from the vet and feed that to him, or rub it on his fur so he has to groom it off. That's how I got my cats to take their worm medicine- Except I mixed it with butter.

Good luck!

When my cat wouldn't eat, the vet gave me a syringe, (minus the needle), and we had to force feed her. Also try human baby food, like turkey or chicken, she ate that when she wouldn't even smell anything else. Good Luck.

Get some chicken baby food. If that doesn't work, then water it down and feed it to your cat with a small plunger. If you talk to a pharmacist about what you're having to do, then they will probably give you a small plunger at no charge.

Try giving him CatSip. It's milk made especially for cats. You can buy it at any pet store or at DrugMart. Look for a small light blue carton with a cat on the front. But don't give your kitty milk you would drink; he'll get diarhhea. Hope he feels better soon!!

I would call your vet and let him know that your cat is not eating, there are perscription diets available from the vet that are pretty palatable for sick cats. Please ask your vet what he/she recommends to try. Good luck to kitty.
