Cain's wife was his sister. You referred to Abel's wife, but I wonder if you meant Seth. We have no biblical record of Abel having taken a wife, or of having children, but Seth would have taken his wife as Cain did.

Mankind was, at first, only two people, Adam and Eve. They had three children whose names we know: Cain, Abel, and Seth. But in Genesis 5:4 we read,

"And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters. "
We're not told how many children Adam and Eve had altogether, but they certainly had plenty of time to raise a very large family.

Adam and Eve were created perfect in every way. Their children would also, no doubt, be born physically and genetically perfect. Therefore, Cain's wife could be one of his sisters with no problems. Likewise, many of Adam and Eve's children would have inter-married with no problems.
God does not condone near-relative marriages. Had God's command to Israel been given to Adam and Eve, and they and their children all obeyed it, mankind would have quickly died out. God, therefore, had to temporarily allow intra-family marriages to increase his earthly family.

One of the oldest questions on yahoo answers... get a new one! The bible tells us only of Cain, Able and Seth, but there were most likely sisters too. Girls were insignificant and now written about for the most part in a patriarchal society that existed at the time. The Bible does not tell us everything! Just what God wanted us to know. How many children could Adam and Eve have had in their 900 + years of life? Lots more than just 3 !!!

No that is a good question, and by the bible there can be a few answers,

First adam and eve also had daughters and we do not know how long it was from the time they were out of the garden to the time that this event happened, 100 years 200 years.

But also the bible gives us an example of creation, that men and women God created "them" so it can also be considered that God created more people than just adam and eve.

Since the bible (old testement) is the history of one specific group of people, those of the family of adam and eve, though Abraham to Christ. it is not a history of most of the gentile and heathen nations or faiths, it is about that one group.

Nope, you don't.
The Bible dosen't say that Adam and Eve were the First.
In Genesis, starting near the Beginning of Genesis, you see that GOD created Man (didn't say it was Adam Either), few verses Later, GOD Creates Adam.
There can be Alot of Time between some of the Verses in the Bible.

Also, if you put Clay into water and Soak it, it gets Soft.

That is Why.
We are Made of the Dust of the Earth.
That is Why some People say that the Earth is our Mother.

please remember that since their genes had just been created one generation ago, incest would not have hurt the children of cain and seth.

yes. all of the people who said Adam and Eve had sons AND daughters were correct.

To all of the people who are going to say that incest is wrong: you are correct. in THIS dispensation, incest is wrong; however, in the first dispensations (innocence, conscience, human government, law) it was more acceptable. People had not been around nearly as long as we have.

it's a good question; there was no need to lose so much credibility by being arrogant about it. I'm sure that if Christians were more approachable and understanding, non-Christians would be more able to openly seek answers without being militant. I'm sure that if non-Christians were less militant, Christians would be more approachable and understanding. The cycle goes on, I can only exhort you - whatever you call yourself - to do what's right and understand that this is about philosophy, not attacking people.

What's good enough for the boys of Idaho was good enough for Cain and Abel.

I see these stories as metaphors. As metaphors, they do not have to be perfectly logical in every way.

However, some explanations may be as follows:

God made wives for them, just as He made Eve for Adam.

Genesis 1 says God made "men AND women" (plural). Genesis 2 tells the story of one particular family in the garden. So the women were one of these others he made in Genesis 1.

Not saying I buy that one. But it's one explanation that is offered.

I see it all as a metaphor though, so to me, it doesn't really matter so much.

The Sears catalog.

I thought you knew that already?

Actually, Cain and Abel married the Johnson sisters. They were the stewardesses on the shuttle down from the mothership. Nice girls from what I heard.

Cain and Able were not thier only children. Unfortunetely, I think we are talking about thier sisters. It was the way as the world began.
