If the world ends in 2036 -- which is highly unlikely, it will probably happen because a giant asteroid slams into the Earth.
I'll be 84 -- but will enjoy the show before it all ends.

It doesn't end in 2036, more like 2011.
But, I expect the Xist to have arrived well before that, so I do hope to get a nice window seat watching the apocalypse...
Hopefully it's better than the movie.

Computers will fail as every 32 bit program catastrophically fails with the Unix-epoch rollover.

Wait, Parrot's right. That's in 2038, not 2036. Hm.

If you mean the "end of times", of the Mayan and other cultures of that time then I can give you some info. If you have another date than that in mind, then I just wasted my time..
The Mayans in their long-count calendar (actually 3 calendars in one) mention December 2012 of our count as the "end of TIME", not the "end of times". The Mayans, knew of our being in a "galaxy" and their long-count cycle was a 5200 year cycle that started with the birth of Venus in 3188 (as Venus came to the horizon) that cycle is ending in December, 2012. And they call that the end of TIME,
Curiously enough, TIME has been a seen as a dimension of space (making up "spacetime") since the early 1900's when Minkowski's (Einstein Professor) interpretation of Einstein's Special theory of Relativity, much similar to the 3 dimensions of Space. Well there are now many physicists who claim that TIME is not the 4th dimension and there is even one book called "The END OF TIME". But it means the end of time as a dimension of space. Now many talk of the 4th and 5th and n.... dimensions of Space.
Some suggestions are that "spacetime" now be called "spacemotion" instead and relegate Time to a "ruler" status just like a regular ruler measures feet and inches using a stick.
Space can then be measured by a ruler or by a clock but we should not mix the two. We can say that the distance from here to there is "ten miles" or "one hour" (at 10 miles per hour).

Why, thank you Lord for granting me entrance into your mythical palace by virtue of answering a ridiculous question!
The world wont end. Not now, not in 2036. Nostradamus prophesized that.

I don't know that it will.
Jehovah's Witnesses said it would 'end' in 1914, 1925, and 'likely"
in 1975. Before them, the Adventists were betting on 1844. Before and since, people have set dates, all of which have come and gone. And you can bet that other 'prophets' will continue to speculate...eventually someone might accidentally hit it right. It would have to be accidental, since the Bible says that it will come unexpectedly as a thief in the night.
