The universal answer seems to be "All the above". It is a sport, form of transportation, and good exercise. I know, because I am a cyclist.

For me,cycling is a sport, form of transportation and exercise rolled into ONE....from the day of its introduction, it has become an integral part of almost every human endeavour in a day-to-day basis...millions have relied on it inorder to "exist" especially in Asia where for some, bicycles are considered to be as a second companion next to their wives....as a matter of fact, for me,a day is not a day without a minute spent on my saddle...it has given me a therapeutic effect especially after a long and grueling day at work..it somehow relaxes me to the extent that it has become a habit forming for me(of course with all the positive effects on me healthwise)... it even rivals my dog as my best friend second to my wife....Cycling is a sport,a form of transportation,an exercise and a THERAPY as well...

It depends how you cycle. If you race, its a sport. If you use it to get where you are going, its a form of transportation. Either way, its exercise.

Originally and primarily a form of transportation. When I was a kid, I bicycled to and from school, and I delivered newspapers on my bicycle.
