I can't believe the movies that get rated PG and PG-13, with so much sex and violence.

For example, I couldn't believe the sexual comments in Shrek II, I was sitting there thinking how many 5 yr olds must have seen this movie with the thongs being snapped, etc.

Don't adults have a responsibilty to keep things less extreme for children? And please, no "it's everywhere" comments, thats a total crock, adults can act and assert control where they are able. What do you think?

Dave, don't you think we have a responsibility to prevent children from picking up that violence is a normal and acceptable way to solve problems? We can't protect them from everything, but to give them some tools other than smacking someone over the head, maybe?

eagamer92- That's really good to know, but some kids for whatever reason don't have your sensibility. Some kids with a lack of parental influence and guidance rely heavily on external forces as role models.

You are so right! There are several newer animated "family" movies that are FULL of sexual innuendos and other bad messages including violence and bad attitudes among the main characters. Our children should never be exposed to such things. That way they can grow up with out these weights on their minds and then when they are more mature they will likely be exposed to it and will adjust much better than a child. We, as parents, definitely need to better control what is put before our children's eyes and ears.

I am very disappointed with the way the movies are rated. I think what is now rated PG should be PG13 and so on. Even cartoons such as Shrek have like 10 cuss words in it! Why do we need swearing in a childrens movie?

I say we just proof watch the kids' movies and go from there. That's really the best we can do to protect the kids and keep them innocent.

Not at all. What upset me was when a bunch of goodie-goodie "parents" forced TV cartoons to "clean up their act", back in the 60s. Remember the old Bugs Bunny and Roadrunner cartoons? I remember when they started cutting out the "violent" parts (reportedly, there was an act of violence like every 15 seconds or so). Remember the Tex Avery cartoons? The sexual inuendo? They rocked. But nooooo. In steps a bunch of prudes and put the brakes on those.

Damn. I'm glad I grew up in a time when you could see the coyote get smacked with an anvil.

I agree. It feels weird saying this since I am 16. but when I go to see a cute funny PG or PG13 movie I want it to be clean if PG and fairly clean if PG13. They are WAY to loose for PG13 now adays. For example the movie RENT, should have been R, even the people who made it agree to that. I still would have went to see it, but I thought since it was PG13 it would be ok to watch baby sitting once, and I had not seen it, and I mentioned it once to the parents and they were like o its only PG13 it should be fine, I was soooooo embarised with some of the seens.

I'm a high school freshman. Just because I see some one get shot or have sex on TV or movies dosn't mean i'm going to start killing people and raping thier dead bodies. However I think their should be ratings and restrictions for the internet so that parents can block certain types of websites.

if you're so worried about it, preview the movies or do some research online before you take your kids to it. and it was rated PG, not G. If it was rated G, it would have been appropriate for everyone. PG movies aren't really appropriate for a 5 year old....

Write to the censor board and complain...unfortunately you'll get a standard reply back which says little more than "We take into consideration public consensus of opinion...." blah blah blah. In other words "tough luck" . I know because I agree with you and have complained!

I agree with you on this subject. I have to say that I miss watching a new T.V show that doesn't have a lot of sex and violence in it.
