We need to keep with this year's parade theme of Hollywood's Golden Years, while connecting it to our animal shelter. Any ideas for how to decorate?

My first thought was Rudolph and the Island of Misfit toys, because shelter animals have something in common with the misfits :(

I Wiki'd Rudolph and there are a lot of connections to the Golden era:
1) Rudolph's story was originally written in 1939
2) Gene Autry's version of the song is the most popular, recorded in 1949
3) Rudolph's first screen appearance came in 1948, in a theatrical short
4) The stop motion animated TV special debuted on NBC in 1964

Hmmm Golden years? Tough one. Can Charlie Browns Christmas tie into somehow? You know build a dog house like Snoopy's Get a beat up X mas tree. Get a beagle for the float?

How about something with all the famous animals like - Lassie, Bengie, Rin-Tin-Tin. There's a lot if you think about it. Make giant cut-out pictures of them and place them on the float possible with some real animals too.
