Will the upgrade work?

Upgrade paths always leave a lot to be desired - it will also make it a rather time-consuming process every time you need to reformat & re-install Vista - massive pain in the ar*e. Best to purchase the full version on disc and be done with it.

Besides which, I'm not sure if there will even BE an upgrade path from Win2K - I think only from XP.

If you are going to buy an "upgrade" version of Win Vista it will install as long as you already have a version of Windows (98; 98SE; ME; XP) on your computer.

You don't need to buy Win2000 to upgrade to Vista.

If I were you I'd wait a year of so for Microsoft to work out all the bugs in Vista before you invest your money in it. The Tech Sites are reporting all sorts of problems with it.

Just a thought!!!

Forget price, if you really want Windows Vista then buy the full install when it comes out. Upgrading from one Windows platform to another leaves soemthing to be desired, even from 2000 to XP. Theres always a glitch or 300 involved.

depends on what spec you computer is. If it is a low spec then dont upgrade to vista as it is very memory and processor hungry. Maybe go to windows xp as it will be supported by microsoft for a few more years yet. Otherwise maybe try linux. Do a google search on linux live cd and give it a try.
