For me, it depends on the candy and depends on the kids. Real little tykes only get one, they are there for the experience, not the candy. For the rest, I usually let them grab from the bowl of candy. If their grabs are excessive, I tell them just two or three, but toward the end of the evening I let them take as much as they want... I DON'T WANT ANY LEFT OVER.

i just stopped going last year, and it sucks to get only 1
i assume you dont want to be a considered the cheap neighbor and you dont want to waste a ton, so....
one if its full size, 2 or 3 if fun sized, a handful (they have small hands afterall) if you want to get a great reputation, give the littlest the most (they share it later anyways, their parents will see that too)
