There is an island with two tribes. One tribe will always tell the truth, the other will always lie. You come to a Y in the road and find a tribesman standing there. You do not know what tribe he is from and he tells you that you may only ask him one question. You need to get to the airport. On of the roads will take you there, the other will surely result in grave danger. What one question do you ask to find the way?

You ask him which road someone not from his tribe would tell you to take, then take the opposite:

if he is from the tribe that always tells the truth, he would know that the other tribe would tell you the wrong road, which is the road he would show you

if he is from the tribe that always lies, he would know the other tribe would tell you the right road, but he would still point to the wrong road since he always lies

In either case, he would point to the wrong road to take, so you would take the opposite road

If I were to ask someone from the other tribe if the left fork is the road to the airport, would he say yes?
If the tribesman answers yes, take the right fork. If he answers no, take the left fork.

what way would your opposing tribe say is the way to the airport

if the aiport is right...... the truth tribe would tell you the lie tribe would say left, and the lie tribe would tell you a lie, the truth would say right so the lie would of course say left, and you take the opposite

just ask: Hey Mister...should I take the left to reach the airport?

when he says No, ask him again:

SHOULD I TAKE RIGHT THEN?

if he will not answer, then right is the way to the airport...Why? because when he is from the Truth Tribe, he will be true to his word that you can only ask one question.

When he is from the Lie Tribe, he will probably answer your second question because when he tells you that you can only ask one question, HE IS ABSOLUTELY LYING.

Ask of one of them: Will the other one tell me this is the right way?

Whatever he says, do the opposite.

If the other one tells the truth, then he will lie and tell you the wrong way.

If he tells the truth, then he will tell you the other's lie (the wrong way).

Either way, you get a lie.

Ask him what color shirt you're wearing, if he tells you the truth, you know you can trust him, but if he lies... then go down the opposite road of witch he tells you!
