Your friend at 19, is still in his development years, from 15 to 25 years old your hormonal system is still in overdrive.
I'm going to list all the supplements you can take, but please do it, or he will end up with a painful curvature of the spine, as well as other glandular problems.
I buy my supplements online from Swanson, however, most health food stores have good formulas (cost 3x more).
Mobility Essentials: contains, Glucosamine Sulfate, Boswellin, Bromelain, Chondroitin Sulfate, White Willow Bark, Curcumin, Quercetin, Sea Cucumber, Yucca Root and Vit.C,Zinc, Manganese.

Eat Plenty of Fish and veggies. When I don't feel like cooking it, I buy H.Salt Fish, It is delicious.
He may want to see a good chiropractor, who can help him straighten the spine. I do, and I kiss him every time for taking me out of my pain.
He is at an age when Healthy Fats and oils are very good for him.

He should see a doctor for his spinal pain as it could be something that is making the situation worse. If your friend feels it is do to his posture, than I recommend doing posture exercises. Crazy as it seems, one of my high school teachers had a pet peeve about posture and had every student in her class do posture exercises. However, in order to be successful in helping your posture you need to exercise it regularly. A problem he will run into is the fact that you don't realize your slouching until someone points it out. I would ask a close friend or family member to help keep him on his toes. When trying to improve your posture your back and shoulders get stiff and sore as they are not used to the posture. One thing we used to do was walk with a book on our head. Being able to keep the book on your head and walk is hard as it demands good posture. When walking with the book on his head he should note his posture on how his shoulders and back is positioned and recreate that posture without the book on his head. Changing your posture is like changing the way you breath, your subconscious mind just does it for you so you have to think about it all the time. Good Luck & God Bless!

Your friend needs to see an orthopedist, one who specializes in the bony structures of the body and its joints. There could be many causes and treatments for his condition. He needs to get it treated while he is still young, rather than waiting. At the very least he needs a spinal x-ray and exam by a doctor to determine if his bones are out of alignment or overgrowing, or growing incorrectly.

Possibly a Chiropractor might help. He can at least get an x-ray, and see if there is an abnormality.
