You could have a problem with your galbladder, perhaps galstones. Are you nauseous? Or it could be kidney stones. Trouble urinating, painful urination, blood in your urine are all signs of kidney stones. Or it's always possible that nothing is wrong and you just have a cramp. If the pain persists or gets worse you should contact your doctor. I'm no doctor, these are just some ideas.
And by the way, if you had a pneumothorax you would be experiencing shortness of breath.

A sharp pain, not like a gas pain? I had appendicitis, and it started out as a gas pain feeling. Sharp pain just below the ribs could be a hernia.

You may be experiencing a spontaneous pneumothorax, or collapsed lung. This sometimes happens to people who are tall and thin. A soft spot on your lung could have erupted causing your right lung to spill air into your chest. This is a very serious condition and I would suggest immediate medical intervention including an x-ray to see if your lung is injured. Don't wait, get it checked out asap.

Could be an infection.
Could be you slept wrong.
Could be a bad gall bladder just now showing up. If pain keeps up see a doctor.
Could be a passing of a kidney stone. If pain keeps up see a doctor.
Good luck and have it checked out.

It could be a pulled muscle or a pinched nerve. Go see your doctor and hopefully he/she can give you a better idea.
