They regard "The Devil made me do it " as an insanity plea, so why not the same respect for those hearing the voice of God, just like the "The Son of Sam" killer.

It has been successfully used in proving an innocence by reason of insanity, as recently as 2004 when the Texas jury ruled that Deanna Laney was insane. She had murdered her children when she said God told her to do so, because if they lived to be adults, their sin could have caused them to go to hell. She is now in a psychiatric facility.

That's just the same as pleading insanity. I'm pretty sure there are cases that have been tried with that insanity plea of "God made me do it." I could imagine the verdict when the Judge hits the gavel, "God made me convict you."....LOL

No because God is just a vague concept to the legal system and not an active entity. It would have no more pull then if one was to blame Santa Claus for their actions.
